Again: the abbey route

Today we drove the "abbey route" again, because it was so nice. We started at the Postel abbey.

From there we headed south. And had to cross the channel on this 2nd worldwar bailey bridge. The part where you drive on is just hard-wooden planks. It looks flimsy but it could hold a tank in the 2nd worldwar!

From there we went to the Averbode Abbey, one of the most beautiful ones of Belgium.

This is where we parked our bikes, next to the gate (illegally?)

This is the Abbey-church. Where the "Norbert-fathers" sing and pray.

This is the inside.

From there to the Tongerlo Abbey.

A view through the main-gate....

To reach those abbeys we had to drive on some very small roads. Here's one next to a big canal. On the rightside is a very old bunker.

Middle Limburg route

On monday we drove a trip through the middle part of "Limburg". We started in Ospel, and via many small roads we drove to Maaseik, from there up to Stevensweert, where we had to help a little boy that was lying strangled in his bicycle. Fortunately after we -unstrangled- him from his bike he stood up very quickly and started walking again (it looked more serious than that...). After that we went on with our trip and passed the very beautiful town St. Odillienberg (under Roermond). It has a very nice church on a hill.

Gig at B&G Best

Yesterday we played at the family day of B&G fences Best.
It all went fine until......

....These clouds came with many rain and thunder........
Never played in the rain before. And also my bass amplifier didn't like it very much...

Motortrip east Brabant

After our 180km trip through East brabant we were (again) very hungry. This time we ate at the "bijenkorf" the place where we also had our wedding party.

And there was already another new couple that had their wedding party over there.......

Countryside art

Some farmers in our neighborhood put large frames on their land to show how beautiful it is. "Like a country-side painting".

Hungry after motor pickup

The valves of my motorcycle had to be adjusted, and the carburettors synchonized. That's a difficult task, so I took it to the workshop. After we picked it up we were hungry........

So we went to "Herberg Kerkzicht" in Diessen, because there they have the best fries of the whole neighborhood. It is really true! You should try it!

Another nice walk on the Kampina

Last week we walked on the south side part of the Kampina, now we are going to the north side.
The "corn" is growing.....

And attracts many kinds of insects, like this special kind of libelle.

This is one of the many ponds that are on the Kampina.....it is filled with "waterlelies".

These ponds attract many animals like this land-frog.

And this geese couple...

You also see many kinds of butterflies....like this one.

And this "dagpauwoog" butterfly.

You also see many kinds of different trees, like these.

And these big ones. If it rains you can stand under them and you don't get wet (at least, with not very big rain...)

Here's a seagull wathing the perimeter.....

Here are some wild cows........The rangers say you have to watch out for them, they are really "wild" animals.

And here is the "monk cap" (monnikskap).

Hollands Diep

Today we made a "West-Brabant" motorcycle trip. We went up to the small town "Willemstad" and got a very nice view on the "Hollands Diep".

And after the long 180km trip we got very hungry, time for a stop.....

Nice walk on the Kampina

Yesterday we walked on the Kampina, one of my favorite nature parks.

Here Marion is enjoying the view on the trees...

Here are the cows that have to keep the grass short.

This grass grows a lot on the Kampina

Here are some old dead trees lying around, it is a 4 star "Hotel" for all kinds of small animals and insects....

Here's the small river "Beerze". Natuurmonumenten created many small waterfalls for the fish....

And here's a "waterjuffer" enjoying the sun....

And here there is a blackbird mother with some food for her children. After a while she noticed that I was taking pictures, she heard the camera!

And here's a cow............she really wanted to be on the photo because she stood still completely studying me....

Kempenroute

Today we tackled a route more close to our home. It is the "kempenroute". It is 165km. long

At the end we passed the "Achelse Kluis" abbey.

This abbey still has it's own brewery. And of course a large trappist-beer shop.

Mergelland route

Here Marion is already driving in the southern Dutch mountains.....it is good for her confidence to tackle the most difficult route in holland available. From there on all other roads in Holland are easy.....

Here's my bike.........

Garden animals....

I spotted this special colored "lieveheersbeestje". If you look well you see it walking on its small feet....

And this young blackbird. It could not fly very well and stayed a few days in our garden. It was continuously fed by its mother and father. Nice to see how these birds care for their young.

Route around Kampina and Drunense Duinen

Marion is driving again! I know from experience that is hard to get your driving confidence back after a motorcycle accident. But she did it! Here we're touring around the Kampina and the Loonse and Drunense duinen.

Funny dog movie!

Firefighting and CPR training

Here we are getting our yearly training in CPR and firefighting....

Some more pictures

Here's a "zanglijsterjong" in our garden. It is looking for small insects to eat.

And here we are rehearsing "loving whiskey" from Anouk......
